Who hath put wisdom
in the inward parts?

Or who hath given
understanding
to the heart?

Background

Like many people drawn to the healing arts, I came upon the path of bodywork through my own desire to better understand my body.

I now see the scoliosis that I was formerly "afflicted" with as a very real gift - a gift into my body and onto this path. As I learn to engage and trust my body's intelligence, and really listen to what it tells me about how I hold myself in my life, I become more aware in my body, more aligned in my center, more in tune with a lifestyle that is sane and kind to my body, and daily filled with increased fluidity, ease, and gratitude for the blessing of this life!

Training

East-West College of the Healing Arts, Portland, Oregon
600-hour massage therapy course, including:

  • 150 hours of clinical practice
  • Extensive knowledge of kinesiology, anatomy, physiology and pathology
  • 260 hours of training in techniques including Swedish, Neuromuscular techniques, Triggerpoint therapy, Asian modialities, and Myofascial Release.

Currently I am pursuing an ongoing (two-year) training in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy through Michael Shea and Biodynamic Massage (which combines deep-tissue and cranial therapy) with Todd Jackson.

Experience & Special Areas of Focus

My approach to massage is to combine a variety of techniques and modalities for optimal effect, including Swedish, deep-tissue, triggerpoint therapy, and neuromuscular techniques. I also regularly utilize Myer's Anatomy Trains concept in my work.

Because of my own experience with Scoliosis, I am especially interested in working with people struggling with musculoskeletal problems such as Scoliosis, Lordosis, and Kyphosis, or any problems with structural alignment (which many people have - we all have to reckon with gravity in one way or another!).

My experience working in a holistic care clinic has consistently given me the opportunity to address symptoms and pain associatated with Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, whiplash and auto-related injuries, and a host of stress-related tension patterns.

In general I am excited to work with anyone who values the power of touch to come closer to balance.

Interests

When not giving massage or working on behalf of the environment (Gila Resources Information Project, Gila Conservation Coalition, Upper Gila Watershed Alliance), I enjoy dance, biking, kayaking, Chi-kung, writing, photography, and all the lovely people here in Portland.

Gratitude for this Path

Studying the body through massage has been a profound path, requiring constant physical and spiritual awareness. The service I am able to provide others through massage makes my life enjoyable and meaningful.
